Description

On Wednesday, May 26th members of the community will be holding an overnight vigil near the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. We will meet at 2pm and remain on site until the following morning to show support for Selvin’s release and to stop his deportation.

Selvin Arevalo came to the United States from Guatemala when he was 14 years old. Just before he was set to earn his high school diploma in Portland, Maine, he was detained after getting into a minor car accident and fled due to panic over his immigration status.

Selvin has been an exemplary member of his community, hard working, a committed student, and a faithful member of his church. His community has risen up around him to try and get him released from detention and to stop his deportation.

Selvin has made the U.S. his home. His hard work, commitment to education, and his desire to seek a better life for himself and those around him exemplifies the American DREAM.
