Former Prisoner Discusses Experiences in Solitary Confinement
Former prisoner, Robert King, will speak tonight at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Portland about his 29 years in solitary confinement.
King was released from a Louisiana prison after decades when a court found him “probably innocent.” In addition to Robert King, Dr. James Maier of the Maine Association of Psychiatric Physicians will speak about the medical impact of solitary confinement or “segregation.” Dr. King will travel to the Maine legislature on Thursday morning to discuss solitary confinement with legislators and will be appearing at the University of Maine at Farmington on Thursday.

This event is being held in conjunction with a series of public education events and lobbying activities to educate Mainers about the dangers associated with the practice of solitary confinement and rally support for LD 1611, “An Act To Ensure Humane Treatment for Special Management Prisoners.”
